“Overdue” to premiere at Tower Theatre

A lot of the team behind “Semi-Social,” plus a mix of some new people, were on board last weekend to make “Overdue,” the latest 48-hour film from Team Ablegate, headed by Ricky Pope.

I was a writer and producer on “Overdue.” Our other writers for the film were Jon Skelly, who I had worked with on “Heroes of the Realm,” along with Songo Adoki and Chris Forbes.  The four of us wrote “Semi-Social” last year.

A cool thing for me this year was I was joined on the film by my daughter Rachel, who both served as a writer’s room assistant for the film and as an actress.

“Overdue” will screen as part of Group B in this year’s screenings, held Sunday, July 29 at Tower Theatre, 425 NW 23rd St. Screenings for Group A begin around 4 p.m.; Group B should start around 6 p.m.; and Group C at 7 p.m.  Advance tickets are $20, and tickets at the door are $25. Tickets are good for all three screening groups.  Tickets are available via Tower Theatre.

The basic premise of the film is this: A pregnant librarian seeking the perfect baby name goes into labor and is joined on her journey by characters from her favorite books. With time running out, her husband hits the road to get her to the hospital.
